You are thinking about suicide

- Call 9-1-1 for immediate assistance, or
- Call a local crisis hotline. Find local listings by province at Crisis Services Canada, or
- Go to your local hospital emergency room. If possible have someone go with you, or
- You can also call the VAC Assistance Service for mental health professional support at any time:
Someone you know is thinking of killing or hurting themselves or someone else
- Stay calm and listen to what the person is saying.
- Directly ask the person, "Are you thinking about hurting yourself?" or "Are you thinking about suicide?"
- Remind the person that they are not alone – you are with them.
- If you are with the person, do not leave them alone.
- Arrange to accompany the person to the hospital emergency department or crisis center – if in doubt, call 911.
